English 2 is a year-long course designed to familiarize students with 10th grade BEST standards. At this grade level, students work with universal themes and archetypes. They are also continuing to build their facility with rhetoric, the craft of using language in writing and speaking, using classic literature, essays, and speeches as mentor texts.
Students also read MacBeth and are able to attend and watch the play as sophomores! This year, the play will be located in our very own SSHS gym. This is always a fun event for the students, and an engaging way to introduce grade-level content!
Students will be working out of their classroom HMH books, online in the HMH platform, Teams, Onenote, etc. for this course. There will be numerous classroom assignments, projects, essays, collaboration, debates, and many other activities to prepare them for the FAST test. 10th grade is the last year that the FAST test is "required" for students to take by the state, as long as they pass. My ultimate goal is to get all of my students to the required level of proficiency, while keeping the classroom and learning environment fun for them!
